Welcome

Welcome to McAuley House high school. I am delighted to provide you with a glimpse of our vibrant campus as you explore our website.

McAuley House is an Independent Catholic School, situated in Parktown West, Johannesburg, a co-educational school from Grade R to 7, and all girls from Grade 8 to 12.

We take pride in our rich history – the school was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in Braamfontein in 1907, in a building which still exists today and is now part of the University of the Witwatersrand. Originally known as the Convent of Mercy, the school relocated to its present location in 1965, where it was known as Parktown Convent before becoming McAuley House School. The school derives its name from Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy.

As a Mercy School, priority is given to the living of Christian values. Our students are taught the values respect and kindness for all, especially for those neglected by the world.

Our Vision is to produce strong, confident, compassionate young women who will strive to serve the needs of their community and the World with dignity, humility and integrity. We welcome students of all faiths, and all our students attend religion classes, masses, assemblies, retreats and other religious activities, as spiritual growth forms an important part of our educational process.

True to the values of Catherine McAuley, caring for the needy is an important aspect of McAuley House. Throughout the year our students take part in various outreach programmes, fostering a sense of social responsibility and awareness and nurturing engaged students who are able to take a stand against the wrongs of society.

Excellence is a value that informs all our activities, with a consistent Matric Pass rate of 100% year on year; our pass rates are consistently 100% in Grade 8 to Grade 12, as well. We have a committed staff who know how important it is to develop the skills of critical thinking and problem solving in their classrooms.

Sports and Cultural activities complement and augment the classroom-based curriculum, with a diverse range of sports and cultural activities on offer.

Class sizes are kept to optimal numbers to allow for individual attention to be given to each student and encouraging our girls to develop their unique, individual talents.
